Ingredients
1 tablespoon butter
2 slices sourdough bread
4 slices Swiss cheese
4 slices bacon, cooked
2–3 tablespoons blackberry jam or blackberry compote
Recipe
Heat a pan over medium heat. Spread the butter evenly on one side of each slice of sourdough. Place one slice in the pan, butter-side down. Layer two slices of Swiss cheese on the bread, then add the cooked bacon. Spoon the blackberry jam evenly over the bacon—don’t flood it, this isn’t soup. Add the remaining two slices of Swiss cheese on top, then close the sandwich with the second slice of bread, butter-side up.
Cook slowly until the bottom is golden and crisp, then flip carefully. Continue cooking until the second side is golden and the cheese is fully melted. Remove from heat, let it rest for a minute (important science: molten cheese needs to calm down), then slice and serve.
Sweet berries, salty bacon, nutty Swiss, crunchy sourdough—this is contrast doing teamwork. Food gets interesting when opposites stop arguing and start collaborating.
