Mama’s Cornbread Dressing

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and celery, and sauté until they are tender.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the toasted bread and cornbread.
  3. Add the sautéed onions and celery to the bread mixture, including the cooking liquid.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, sage, and poultry seasoning. Mix thoroughly.
  5. Using a bulb baster, add just enough turkey giblet broth to the mixture to make it very moist.
  6. Stir in the beaten eggs, then transfer the mixture to a large greased baking pan or dish.
  7. Bake in a preheated 400°F oven until the dressing is nicely browned, about 30-40 minutes.
