Other Useful Utilizations for the Small Round Hole
In addition to storing your nail clipper on a keychain, there are several other really good and trust me, practical purposes for that little circular hole. Here are some creative solutions you might not have considered:
Hang It for Easy Access
If you’re the type of person who’s good at losing small items, hang your nail clipper on a tiny hook through the hole. Whether it’s on your bathroom counter, by your sink or tucked away in a drawer, this is an ideal way to keep it by your side and easy to find.
Use for Extra Leverage
Slipping a finger or pinky through the hole can help stabilize the clipper, for some, particularly if the clipper feels too small or too slippery in their hands. It is not officially an official use, but if it works, why not?
Group Clippers Together
You can also stick small clippers together by a small ring if you have two different ones for fingernails & toenails (or when you have clippers in different sizes). This ways, they’re concentrated and you won’t jumble them together.

Why Nail Clippers Were Designed This Way
The original nail clipper that we know was invented in the late 19th century, and has undergone a number of design updates to evolve into the modern tool we use today. Most cheapo clippers, however, have been doing this with that little round hole. Why? It’s not really about the enhanced durability, though, it’s more that it’s an easy, productive approach to portable play. The hole enables the clipper to be kept on a keychain or lanyard, a potent sign of functionality in an era before household bathrooms were widespread and people took their grooming implements with them, like wallets or handkerchiefs.
