Step 2. Cook the coconut cream
In a small saucepan, combine milk, butter, and sugar.
Heat until the butter is completely melted, stirring constantly.
Once the mixture is smooth, add the coconut flakes.
Once it boils, reduce the heat and simmer for a few minutes, stirring occasionally. It should thicken slightly and become creamy.
Let’s cool. The cream will continue to thicken as it cools.
Step 3. Soaking and assembling the cake
Cut the cooled cake into two halves.
Generously soak each layer with whipped cream—this is what creates the “wet” effect, making the cake tender, moist, and flavorful.
Spread coconut cream on the bottom layer.
If you prefer a richer flavor, spread the cream on both layers at once.
