Forgiveness and Healing
A few days later, Louis came to the village himself to check on her. As soon as he walked through the door, it was clear he had been crying; his eyes were red.
“Mom… forgive me. I didn’t treat you right that day… I am so, so sorry.”
Madam Rosa took his hand with a gentle smile.
“My son, I understand everything. I never held it against you. Just remember this: money can always be earned back… but if you lose your mother’s love, you will never get it back.”
Louis broke down and burst into tears like a little boy, burying his face in his mother’s hands. Outside, sunlight poured through the window, filling the small room with a special, profound warmth.
After that day, Louis completely changed. He visited the village often, brought groceries for his mother, and repaired her old house. His wife initially felt uncomfortable with the new dynamic, but little by little, she too began to understand the importance of family.
The story of the 70-year-old mother and the love hidden inside a bag of rice eventually spread throughout the entire village.
For Madam Rosa, the most precious thing wasn’t the 5,000 euros. It was the hidden love of her son—a man who seemed hard on the outside, but was sincere on the inside.
Often, she would sit in front of her house, smile, and say:
“That rice from that day… it was the most delicious meal of my entire life.”
